devils in trinidad

The continual stream of vendor and customer surveys was broken for Charlotte and I this past Tuesday as we traveled to Chaguanas to visit their more modern market. With a population of roughly 75,000, Chaguanas is roughly the same size as Arima, yet their markets are vastly different. At 400 vendors during the week, and a massive 800 during the weekend, the Chaguanas market is much larger. Furthermore, the market is housed in building constructed in 2001, with dark floors that show little filth and powerful ventilation fans to keep the smell of fish at bay. Yet, this community has issues with illegal vendors much like the ones that Charlotte and I are working against in Arima. Later in the week, Charlotte and I were able to meet with Mr. David Williams, a local official who has been like a supervisor throughout our project. He suggested that we venture out into the rest of Arima to assess the illegal vendor situation further from the designated market area. Because the surveys we have created thus far won’t necessarily fit with this population, Charlotte and I have some work ahead of us in communicating with these new vendors.
